Structural Renovations are currently working at Safestore’s Acton premises. The building is undergoing major refurbishment which includes adding a full height extension and over cladding of the full building envelope to bring the property into line with Safestore’s corporate identity.

The building is steel framed which has been encased in concrete with pre cast concrete window heads and cills. Structural Renovations are carrying out the removal of defective render and concrete and reinstating with mortars from the Sika MonoTop range, prior to the over cladding by a specialist sub-contractor.

To fall in line with the clients budget Structural Renovations are carrying out a visual and hammer survey in conjunction with the Principal Contractor, New World Builders and the Consulting Engineers, GGP Consult, to identify the extent of defective render and concrete on an elevation by elevation basis. A repair strategy is then proposed based on the findings prior to the works being carried out.

The works are accessed from scaffolding provided by the Principal Contractor, with exception to the front elevation where mobile elevated works platforms are to be utilised. Access here is limited and required to be maintained at all times to allow access to Freshway’s distribution yard at the far end of the site.

Safestore’s Acton site is the fourth Safestore building that Structural Renovations have been employed on, the other sites being Pentonville Road, Edgware and Battersea.

Structural Renovations are currently employed to carry out concrete repairs to the old YMCA building on the Barbican Estate that is currently being converted into apartments.

Following the successful completion of surveys and colour matched structural repairs to a number of structures on the listed Barbican Estate, Structural Renovations carried out a brief condition survey of the building prior to taking over by the developer. A further in depth survey was carried out and we were subsequently awarded the repair package.

Repairs are being carried out using the specification developed for the Barbican Estate repairs consisting of a Remmers high build structural repair mortar and finished with colour matched decorative mortars and a clear coating to replicate the brutalist finish of the 1960s & 70s.


Ronald McDonald Evelina House

Structural Renovations Waterproofing - Ronald McDonald Evelina House

Evelina House is a new build project being constructed by Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd in Lambeth, South London for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

There are 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK, all located close to specialist children’s hospitals. They are open 365 days a year and are equipped with everything you would find in a family home. Families can get a good night’s sleep, prepare their own meals and feel at home, knowing that they’re only a moments away from their child.

Structural Renovations have been awarded the sub-contract for the installation of the Sika LPL warm roof system consisting of tapered insulation & liquid applied membranes offering a 20 year warranty.

The main roof, in excess of 600m², is now complete. Insulation & membranes to the two lower terraces will follow later in the year, one of which will have a green roof garden.

The airfield at Shenington near Banbury was completed in 1941, and called RAF Edgehill operating Vickers Wellingtons, Miles Martinets and Hawker Hurricanes and was also for the flight testing of the Gloster E28/39 jet in 1942.

After the war it became a storage depot. After a brief period as a Flying Training School, it finally closed as an RAF station in 1953.

Since then the control tower has fallen into disrepair as seen in the photograph until recently when planning permission was given to repair the building & convert into a habitable space.

Structural Renovations provided budget figure for the complete overhaul of the structure and were subsequently awarded the structural repair package. This  included concrete repair & resin injection to beams and soffits followed by application of a migrating corrosion inhibitor & fairing coat whilst maintaining the as cast finish of the 1940’s board finish.

Central Swimming Pool, Reading

Central Pool - Waterproofing

Structural Renovations have recently completed extensive waterproofing and refurbishment works at Central Swimming Pool in Reading. Working closely with KRP Consulting Engineers and Reading Borough Council, Structural Renovations have completed waterproofing of the tiled pool surrounds, waterproofing of the diving pool roof and concrete repairs within the undercroft.

The existing tiled surrounds had began to let water penetrate through causing damage to the concrete elements within the undercroft below. A solution was sought to provide a robust seamless coating to not only prevent the water ingress but also a non-slip surface and a finish that was aesthetically pleasing.  The pool was closed for two weeks before Christmas 2015 and a spray applied polyurea coating incorporating a high adhesion primer and non-slip beading was installed.

During the same shut down period the roof over the diving pool was waterproofed using Sikalastic 625, which is a reinforced waterproof seamless membrane. Concrete repairs were carried within the undercroft using the Sika MonoTop range.

The works were successfully completed within the two week programme to the satisfaction of the clients and end users.


Marlborough Gardens

We are currently completing the full external refurbishment of a 1960’s residential block in Surbiton, Surrey.

The existing asphalt roof has been over coated with a reinforced, seamless liquid applied roofing membrane and the cantilevered reinforced concrete balconies have been repaired using a cementitious, polymer modified system before being treated with a reinforced polyurethane membrane on the decks and pigmented, anti-carbonation coating to the soffits.

Other works include, refurbishing the communal electrics and plumbing, installing new uPVC facia to the perimeter of the block and three tank housings and upgrading the TV aerials to all the flats.

This contract demonstrates our capability of co-ordinating multiple trades, where the interface between various elements demands close monitoring of programming.
